About Us

David Neilsen, MD (Medical Director & Instructor):

Dr. Neilsen is a Board Certified Family Physician practicing medicine for +30 years.  He specializes in Emergency Medicine, rural/remote/austere and disaster medicine.  He has practiced in rustic areas of Alaska, the Southeast, and the Western Redoubt.  When not in the hospital you can find him running trails in North Georgia or primitive camping.  Dr. Neilsen has also studied primitive skills and survival in remote or difficult regions for many years.  His gregarious personality and passion for passing along curated knowledge and skills is immediately apparent when he interacts with students. His classes are fun, high energy, and low stress.  Dr. Neilsen instructs the "what to ‘do'" and focuses primarily on hands-on experiences.

He has joined Matthew Sweet and the Eidolon Tactical team as the (non-tactical) Medical Director. His presentations include introductory and advanced suturing techniques, and care of the sick or injured patient where there is no doctor. He provides “you are there” common medical and emergency scenarios encountered in austere settings.
